Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea
Summary On Saturday the 13th of November 2021, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 58 travellers, including seven women and two children, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left from Laayoune the same morning and were heading towards the Canary Islands. The relative gave us the GPS position of the travellers and the number of their satellite phone, but we were not able to establish direct contact to the boat. We relayed all information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. In the evening, Salvamento Maritimo told us that they had rescued a boat corresponding to the description we had given them. They told us that all the travellers were safe and would be brought to Fuerteventura. This was later confirmed by the relative.
