Situation: 55 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to the Canary Islands.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea

Summary: On Thursday the 28th of October 2021, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 55 travellers, including eight women and two children, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left from Tarfaya the same morning at around 02.00 CEST on a white rubber boat. We managed to reach the travellers and got their GPS position. They also told us that the weather was bad and the boat unsteady due to high waves. We immediately forwarded all information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvaemento Maritimo. After this, we were no longer able to reach the travellers. We later got a confirmation from the relative that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to the Canary Islands.
