Situation: 14 travellers from Corfu rescued to Italy.

Summary of the Case: At 04:20h CEST in the early morning of Sunday the 29th of August the Alarm Phone was called by a relative of a traveller on board of a boat which had left from Corfu, Greece, the previous evening. The relative told us that there are 14 people on board, including three children and also passed us the boat’s GPS position. At 04:49h our shift team informed the Italian coastguard in Bari passing on all the information we had. During the hours that followed we kept in constant contact with the Italian coastguard and the relative who informed us, relaying updated coordinates. Finally at 07:40h the Italian coastguard confirmed that the boat had been rescued and the travellers were being taken to Santa Maria di Leuca.
