Summary of Case In the night of August 11th Alarm Phone received a call from a relative alerting us to a boat in distress carrying 18 people who had departed Tunisia from Sfax. We were unable to establish contact to the boat and informed authorities at 01.30 CEST. In the afternoon of the same day the relative who had alerted us confirmed the arrival of all 18 people to Lampedusa

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
