Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 03rd July 2021
Case name: 2021_07_03-CM492
Situation: 95 travellers from Sabratha probably intercepted by so-called Libyan coastguard.
Status of WTM Investigation: Unconfirmed
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case:
In the evening of Saturday the 3rd of July, the Alarm Phone was called by a worried relative of a traveller who had departed from Sabratha the previous night. The boat was carrying 95 people including 5 women and 2 babies. The relative had heard that the boat had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard and was looking for confirmation. After trying unsuccessfully several times to establish direct contact with the travellers ourselves, at 22:24h CEST our shift team e-mailed relevant authorities asking for confirmation. While we were never able to receive confirmation of the interception, neither by email nor by phone, we believe this probably happened given the numerous interception which had occurred during those days.
