Summary of the Case:

On February 26 in the early morning the Alarm Phone was alarmed by a distress call from a boat in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The people on board were exhausted and seasick and asked for help. They gave us their GPS position and said they were about 52 persons in a yellow rubber boat and started from Zawiya. We informed the authorities of Malta, Libya, Italy and SAR NGO Sea-Watch at 6.42h CET. The crew of the SAR ship Sea-Watch 3 answered they were very close to the distress case and started a rescue operation. At 9.51h CET they confirmed the rescue of 45 people among them 5 women and 15 minors.

Border police patrols
