Summary of the Case:
In the morning of Thursday the 4th of June, the Alarm Phone was alerted by the relative of one of the travellers to a boat in distress which had departed from Tangier the previous night. The boat was carrying 10 travellers including 1 woman and 9 men. As we were trying to reach the travellers ourselves, the relative whom first informed us called us back saying he had heard that the boat had been intercepted by the Moroccan Navy. At 12:37h our shift team called the Moroccan Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) but no boat had been found matching our characteristics. At 14:37h we managed to reach the travellers who told us that they had gone back to Tangier of their own accord and were all safe.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
