Summary of the Case:

Alarm Phone was called in the early morning of 22nd of January 2021. The person informed us to be on a blue wooden boat with 77 people, some of them came from Egypt, Somalia and Pakistan. Afterwards they gave us their GPS position. We informed authorities and the NGO Ocean Viking. When we spoke to the travellers again at 08:26h CET they were scared because water was entering the boat and only one hour later the weather got worse. We informed the authorities and other competent actors again. Although Ocean Viking stated at around 9 to launch their fast rubber boats to discover the situation we learned that the boat has been intercepted by the so-called Libyan Coastguard.

Border police patrols
