Summary of the Case:
On 5 January 2020, we were asked by a relative to confirm that a boat carrying 30 people, including 16 women and 5 children, who had embarked early the previous morning from Al Hoceima, had arrived safely in Spain. We asked the Spanish Search and Rescue organaisation Salvamento Marítimo (SM) in Almeria for information who asked us to contact the central office in Madrid. The central office were unhelpful, but social media reports leave us confident that they arrived. Boza.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
