Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Aegean Sea
Summary of the Case: On Saturday the 7th of December the Alarm phone was alerted to two distress cases in the Aegean sea. One boat finally arrived safely to Samothraki, Greece and two travellers on jet-skies were rescued to Kalolymnos, Greece.
At 07:30 CET of Saturday the 7th of Decemberour shift team was alerted, by a worried relative of one of the travellers, to a boat in distress most probably heading towards Samothraki island. Due to communication difficulties we were not able to retrieve enough information as to alert the authorities. Although we were unable to establish direct contact with the travellers themselves, and although during the afternoon we lost contact with the relative that first called us, the following day we were informed that the travellers had safely arrived in Greece.
At 21:25 of the same day we were alerted to two travellers heading towards Kalolymnos island in jet-skies. At 21:55 our shift team alerted the Greek coastguard. At 23:50 the port authorities informed us that the travellers had been rescued. At 02:18 in the night the travellers themselves confirmed the rescue.
