Summary of the Case: Early in the morning of Friday the 5th of October the Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat in distress carrying 35 travellers. Reportedly the boat had lost its engine and was close to the Turkish coast near Yalikavak. Around 5.30 am CEST we managed to establish contact with the travellers who informed us that they had already alerted the Turkish coastguard. At 5.41 am we contacted the Turkish coastguard ourselves to pass on the most recent GPS location. At 6.32 am the travellers confirmed that they had been rescued.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
