Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 5th of November 2019

Summary of the Case:
On 5 November at 12:08h CET our shiftteam was informed about a group of 33 travellers, among them 6 women and a toddler, who had stranded on Nimos island. They told they got wet when reaching the shore and that one men was injured. At 12:17h the Alarm Phone received their GPS position and some minutes later called the Greek coastguard. Unfortunately the coastguard stated to be not responsible as the group were already on land and therefore should call 112 by themselves. Our shiftteam communicated this back to the stranded group but they were not able to call the emergency hotline in Greece due to their Turkish SIM card . The Alarm Phone called the Greek coastguard again and was connected to the operation center and passed them all neccessary information. At 12:46h the stranded group reported a boat but were worried if this boat will help them. At 13:10h our shiftteam clearified the situation and got the information that it will take another one to two hours until a suitable boat will arrive. The information were communicated back to the stranded group. At 14:20h the travellers confirmed the arrival of the Greek coastguard, who shortly after confirmed the transfer of the group to Symi.
