Summary of the Case: On Saturday the 31st of March, at 06.15am, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a contact person to a group of travellers close to Lesvos, forwarding us their phone number and position. The contact person had lost contact to the boat, and we were also not able to reach them. At 6.24am we alerted the Greek coast guard to the case, and afterwards a local solidarity group. Half an hour later the solidarity group informed us that the Greek coast guard was carrying out the rescue operation of a boat close to the position we had received.
At 3.09pm we got a confirmation from the travellers that they had arrived safely to Greece.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
