Summary of the Case: On Wednesday the 28th of March, at 10.11pm, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a contact person to a group of nine travellers, including two children. At 10.20pm we managed to reach the travellers. Due to bad connection, it was not possible to talk to the travellers, but we could hear a motor in the background, indicating that they were still moving. At 10.28pm we received a position via the contact person, showing that the travellers had reached Greek waters. We alerted the Greek coast guard to the case at 10.30pm. 40 minutes later, the contact person informed us that the travellers had reached Kos on their own, and we immediately passed on this information to the Greek coast guard. Later, at 1.20am our shift team reached the travellers, who informed us that they had all arrived safely.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
