Summary of the Cases: On Monday the 17th of August 2015, the Alarm Phone was contacted by someone who informed our shift team about a vessel on which his friends had left from Port Tangier/Morocco in the early hours of the day. He told us that there were 8 people in total and he passed on a mobile phone number. When we could not reach the group we contacted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo and passed on the information we had received. Shortly afterwards we were able to get in touch with the travellers themselves. They told us that they were in the process of being intercepted by the Moroccan Navy

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
