Case name: 2022_08_18-EASTERN MED - 970

Situation: 1 severely ill traveller in Dadia, Greece, taken to Thessaloniki camp

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Eastern Med

Summary of the Case:

In the evening of the 18th of August 2022, Alarm Phone was alerted to 1 man in distress near Dadia in the Evros region in Greece. The caller related that the traveller had drunk water from the river and it made him very ill and he needed immediate medical attention. We got in contact with the man who told us that 2 days ago the police came, beat-up and took his friends to Turkey, and since then he was alone in the forest and very afraid to call for help even though he was so ill with fever and breathing problems. We alerted the authorities at 19:07, giving them his location. We continued to call all the police stations in the vicinity throughout the night, meanwhile the situation of the traveller worsened and he was fainting. The next day at 12:50 we were told that the traveller was arrested by the Soufli police, after which he spent 10 days in detention, then taken to a camp in Thessaloniki.
