Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 1st of September 2021

Case name: 20190901-AEG816

Situation: 1 person with injured feet stuck in Greece near the border to Turkey

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Aegean Sea

Summary of the Case:

On the 1st of September we were informed about one person on the move who couldn't walk anymore due to injuries on his feet, he wanted to go to hospital. A relative told us that the injured didn't want to apply for asylum in Greece but return to Turkey. When we called the border guard station in Orestadia we were told that "the border it's closed we will do nothing". We called again and were given a number of another border guard station, there they didn't speak English and refused to act. Finally we called the hospital of Didymoticho, who accepted to take the GPS position and look after the injured person.

We could never establish direct contact to the injured person, nor did we get an update from the hospital later on.
