Summary of the Case: At 0.00 CEST the Alarm Phone received a message from 9 travelers asking for help, along with their position. They said they had been there for four days and were in danger. We sent them information resources and numbers of local police. At 1:24am we called the police and contacted UNHCR to inform them of the situation. We continued to contact the travelers and the border police throughout the night. At 8.08am, we called the border police, who informed us that the travelers had been found and were doing alright. Finally, at 6.08pm, we received confirmation by a contact-person that the travelers had been found.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
