After the incidents from Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd with presumably more than 270 fatalities, on Sunday evening another vessel carrying hundrets of refugees capsized north of the Libyan coast. Following the UNHCR and news reports, 24 bodies were recovered by the Italian navy and more are still missing.
This means that during the last weekend only presumably more than 300 people have died in their attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea.
The UNHCR estimates that nearly 1900 people have died in this way in 2014.
