Summary of the Case:
In the morning of the 17th January, Alarm Phone was alerted to a group of 12 people (including 3 men, 2 women – one of whom was pregnant – and 7 children) in distress in Croatia, not so far from the Bosnian border. The people told us that they were running away from people threatening and chasing them. They were freezing cold and had run out of food and water. While alerting the Croatian authorities and several local organisations to inform them of the distress case and that the people wanted to apply for asylum, Alarm Phone’s teams stayed in contact with the people in distress until they were rescued and were able to exercise their rights and apply for asylum.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
