Summary of the case: On Thursday the 22th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of around 10 travellers, all men, in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Tipaza, Algeria, on the 18th of August, heading towards Ibiza. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat and did not know their exact position. However, we immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to the island Cabrera.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
