Situation: 11 travelers in distress in Western Mediterranean arrive in Spain

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the Case: On November 29th, 2022, Watch the Med Alarm Phone was notified by concerned relatives of a boat in distress in the Western Mediterranean. 11 travelers (of whom 3 were minors) were traveling from Tazaghine, Morocco towards Spain in a khaki-colored rubber boat with a motor. They had left 5:00 local time earlier that day. The Alarm Phone was briefly able to establish contact with the boat, but not for long enough to learn their exact position. Further attempts to reach the boat were unsuccessful. The Alarm Phone notified the Spanish search and rescue organization Salvamento Marítimo (SM) by email. The following day we learned that they arrived in Spain on their own.
