Summary of the case: On Wednesday the 5th of October 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 39 travellers, including one woman, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from around Tan Tan at 02.00 CEST the same morning on a black rubber boat. We were not able to establish a direct contact to the travellers, but relayed all information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. Despite continuously trying, we never managed to reach the boat. The following morning Salvamento Maritimo informed us that they had sent an aircraft to search for the travellers. In the afternoon, Salvamento Maritimo informed us that they had rescued the travellers who would be brought to Lanzarote.

Border police patrols
