Summary of the Case:

In the night to the 5th of December 2022 we were alerted by 1 person who had stranded on Kos, near the Wildlife Sanctuary Fokas-Psalidi. He reported that his leg was broken and he was in urgent need of medical assistance.

At 00:46 CET we alerted Greek authorities and several NGOs by email.

Afterwards we called local guastguards, port-authorities and police. At 3:25 CET the police on Kos confirmed that they had found the man and he was transferred to the hospital which was shortly afterwards also confirmed by the person himself.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
