Summary of the Case: On the 30th of September 2022 we are alerted by relatives about a group of 17 people in distress in Turkish waters. The relative tells us the boat is sinking and they need urgent assistance. We alerted the Turkish Coast Guard (TCG) straightaway by email and phone. The TCG confirmed by phone that they were already aware of the case and that they will send a boat to the position, they later confirmed they found the group.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
