Summary of the Case: On 27th of September 2022 we received an alert about a groupf of 25 people in distress at sea. We immediately alerted the Turkish Coast Guard (TCG) by email. We then managed to make contact with the group who told us that they have no more fuel, no motor, and that the boat is full of water. They asked for urgent help. We called the TCG to make sure they received our mail, they confirmed they did and informed us they were aware of the boat already and are sending a boat to the position. One person from the group confirmed that the TCG found them.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
