Case name: 2022_05_31-ATL056

Situation: 44 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to Fuerteventura.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea

Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 31st of May 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 44 travellers, including 10 women and three babies, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left from Boujdour at around midnight, heading towards the Canary Islands. We were not able to reach the travellers and the relative told us that they had lost contact to the boat as well. However, we informed the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo about the distress situation, relaying all the information we had.
Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued and brought to Fuerteventura.
