Summary of the Case: On Tuesday the 24th of May 2022 in the evening, the Alarmphone shift team was alerted to a group of three travellers stuck at land in the Evros region. One of the travellers had been bitten by a snake and was unable to continue walking. The travellers had called the emergency number, but were told that their location was not accessible for the authorities to provide help. We tweeted about the situation of the travellers. The following morning, help had still not arrived, and the travellers told us that their situation was getting increasingly dangerous. In the early afternoon we learned that the travellers had been found and that the person who was bitten by a snake had been transferred to a hospital while the two other travellers were in detention.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
