Case name: 2022_01_31-WM012

Situation: Three travellers in distress in the Western Med, returned to Morocco.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary: On Monday the 31st of January 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team received a direct call from a group of three travellers in distress in the Strait of Gibraltar. The travellers had left the day before on a kayak and were attempting to row across the Strait. They told us that they had lost their orientation. We were not able to get their GPS position, but alerted the Moroccan rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. After this, we lost contact to the travellers. Only the following day did we learn that the travellers had managed to return to Morocco.
