Case name: 2021_10_10-CM588

Situation: 22 people, including four or five women, departed Sfax, fate unclear

WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean

Summary of Case In the night of October 10th Alarm Phone was called by a relative who alerted us to a group of 22 people, four or five women and children, in distress. According to the caller the travellers had departed Sfax the previous day, October 9th. We were unable to establish direct contact to the boat in distress and alerted authorities at 03.15 CEST. We learnt of the arrival of a group of 20 people to Lampedusa in the morning of October 10th but were unable to match it to the distress call we received during the night. We were unable to get in contact with the relative who alerted us, nor the people in distress so sadly cannot confirm the fate of the 22 people who had departed Tunisia.
