Summary of Case In the early morning of June 16th Alarmphone was called by a group of 25 men in a green wooden boat, drifting, South of Lampedusa. According to the information provided by the caller, they had spent 30 hours at sea, had not food or water and their engine had stopped. We informed authorities at 01.34 CEST; three hours later the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Rome did not confirm they had launched a rescue operation. We continued calling the boat throughout the remainder of the night and the following day, whithout being able to re-establish contact. At 14.10 CEST the media reported a group of 24 men had been rescued to Lampedusa at 06.00 CEST June 16th.
