Summary of Case

In the evening of May 13th we were alerted to a boat of 90 people, including four children, drifting in worsening weather conditions in international waters North of Zuwarah. Eventually we received a gps position and informed authorities at 22.56 CEST. Connection to the people in distress was lost at 05.00 CEST; by 09.21 CEST, we still had no information of any ongoing rescue operation. Throughout the night we were were in touch with a relative who had also lost contact to the boat and was asking for news. After several attempts at contacting the so called Lybian coast guard via telephone, an operator confirmed the interception of around 90 people in the position last related to us by the people in distress during the night.
