Summary of the Case:
In the morning on March 22nd the Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat stranded on the island of Chios. Authorities in Piraeus were contacted at 06.47h CEST, who stated that the people on the boat had been rescued an hour ago. At 8.34h authorities in Chios confirmed that 28 people had been rescued. By the afternoon of the same day, a family member of a person on the boat confirmed that all 32 people on the boat had been rescued.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
