Summary of the Case: On 20 December our shift-team was alerted to a group of 2 women, 5 men and 3 children, stranded on the island of Ro. At 19:36h CET we called the Greek coastguard and additionally sent an email. At 20:26h the port police in Kastellorizo confirmed they found the group. Unfortunately we could not get the confirmation of the stranded people themselves.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
