Summary of the Case: On Monday the 24th of December at 6:16am CET the Alarm phone shift team was sent a phone number and GPS coordinates of a group of 14 travellers (including 8 women and 1 child) who were stranded on the small island of Ouinousses, a small island close to Chios. Unable to make contact with the group, we alerted the Chios port authority who later, at 8:20am, informed us that they had found the group on rocks near to the sea and were bringing them to the camp in Chios. We received confirmation of this at 2:23pm from our contact person.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
