Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 25th of September 2018Case name: 2018_09_25-AEG433
Situation: 60 people, including 25 children, on their way to Samos
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Aegean Sea
Summary of the Case: At 3.15am CEST on Tuesday the 25th of September the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a boat carrying 60 people, including 25 children, which was in distress. At 3:25am we called the Greek coastguard and provided them with the GPS coordinates for the boat. At 4:03 we received an updated GPS coordinate from the boat. We called the coastguard again and gave them the new GPS position and they confirmed that they had sent a boat to rescue the travellers. At 4:15am the travellers contacted us to again ask for help. At 4:37am the coastguard told us there were two boats close to Samos and they were trying to rescue the people. We were unable to make contact again with the boat, and received no confirmation from the coastguard that this boat was rescued but we assume that it was one of the two rescued boats.
