Summary of the Case: Soon after midnight of Sunday the 1st of November, the Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat in distress from a
relative of one of the travellers on board. The boat was carrying 14
people and had departed the previous evening from Nador, Morocco and was heading towards Montril/Almeria. At 00h15 CET we alerted the Spanish Search and Rescue organisation Salvamento Marítimo (SM) via phone and then via email. The following morning SM informed us that a rescue operation was ongoing. Later, around 12h50 CET, the relativemthat first alerted us to the distress case, confirmed that all the travellers (who were finally 13) had been rescued by SM and were safe in Almeria.

Border police patrols
